Is being a man really that difficult?

how to be a man

Is being a man really such a hard task that we have to scour the internet in search to find articles, written by just some other normal guy, telling us how to be a man?

In the words of Peter Griffin "You know what really grinds my gears?". What grinds my gears is that there are hundreds of websites out here that tell you "How to be a man", when in fact, I'm wondering "What qualifies them to tell me how to be a man"?

I'm willing to admit that I am no "perfect" man. I don't think there is such a thing.

All these websites post articles with headlines that claim they know something you don't. As if they have the inside scoop on things like, "How to dress like a man", "How to act like a man", "How to exercise like a man". These guys act like they have some degree in manliness. Granted some articles have really good advice, but some are just so ridiculously -- far reached -- that they're almost laughable.

My thoughts on some of these articles.

1. How to dress like a man.

A man owns his own style. A man doesn't dress to look like somebody in a "how to dress like a man" article. There's nothing wrong with dressing "dapper" in a nice suit, but there is nothing wrong with some levi's and a white t-shirt either. You dress the way you want, but dress appropriately for the occasion! Of course, your not going to wear a t-shirt that has inappropriate images or language on the front of it to a fancy dinner, but you get the picture.

2. How to exercise like a man.

A man doesn't have to go into the gym and pretend or try to be a bodybuilder pushing up massive amounts of weight. You go into the gym and put in the best workout you can, whether it's weight training or just doing cardio. I don't know how many articles I've read stating that you have to lift weights to workout like a man. Why? Hell, the best man I know doesn't even lift weights. He goes by the name DAD.

3. How to act like a man.

How does a man act? Be humble, be respectful, and be courteous to others.

The way I see it, to be a man, one is to be humble, set aside personal pride, and always put forth your best effort. Treat others with respect, don't be a self-righteous asshole, and do try your best in everything you do. This pretty much goes hand-in-hand with everything you do in life whether its being a father, dealing with clients, or taking your woman out to dinner. Be humble, put your pride aside, and do your best.
