The age of re-purposing old pallets into rustic furniture is among us. Not only does it look good, They're also fun to build. With the beginner in mind, these 5 projects use minimal tools and take little time to complete. Included in each project, and without the obvious need of a pallet, I've listed all the tools and requirements for each.


1. Pallet Beer Bottle Opener

This beer bottle opener was actually built by myself about a year ago. This project was built using an oak pallet crate lid that was sitting outside for about a year, giving it a nice rustic look and feel. Here is what you'll need.



  • Chop Saw (compound mitre saw)

  • Wood Glue

  • brad nails or (pneumatic finish nail gun)

  • Pencil

  • Tape measure

  • bottle opener

  • screw driver


Time to complete project: 20-30 min


2. Pallet Wine Rack

This wine rack is pretty simple and basic in design, but has a beautiful rustic appeal to it as well. Here is what you'll need:



  • Chop Saw

  • measuring tape

  • pencil

  • screws 1 1/4"

  • power drill

  • wood drill bit (pre drill screw holes so the wood doesn't crack when screwing the pieces together)

  • wood glue

  • holesaw bit 1 1/8"


Time to complete Project: 60-90 min


3. Pallet Towel Rack

 A simple towel rack is a very easy, yet useful project. Most of the time involved with this project will be sanding and staining.
Here is what you'll need:



  • pencil

  • measuring tape

  • saw

  • hangers

  • sand paper

  • stain and finish (optional)


Average time for project: 30-40 min


4. Pallet wall shelf

The pallet wall shelf is a simple way to dress up the interior of your house. Great for family photos, candles, plants, or any other little nic-knacks you want people to see.
Here is what you'll need:



  • Chop saw

  • wood glue

  • pencil

  • measuring tape

  • screws 1 1/4"

  • sand paper


Estimated time to complete: 30-40 min


5. Coat Hanger

A great way to keep the jackets off the back of the furniture. This coat hanger takes a little bit more skill, but not much.
Here is what you'll need:



  • pencil

  • measuring tape

  • wood glue

  • screws 1 1/4"

  • hangers

  • chop saw


Estimated time: 90 min
